If you’re heading to Brisbane to spend some time together, be prepared for a couples getaway to remember. The city is perfect for exploring, with so many opportunities to create memories and enjoy some non-stop fun. Wander the streets as you take in the mix of natural beauty and exciting discoveries, great shopping and lots to eat and drink.
Here’s our suggestions on how to spend 48 hours for couples in Brisbane.
Day 1
Morning
Rise, shine, and get some culture – a morning wandering Brisbane’s cultural centre is a great way to spend time together. You can visit art installations at the two separate art galleries, pop into the museum, visit the state library, and enjoy the scenic river location as you wander from place to place.
Afternoon
From there, the next logical step is a quick walk to the South Bank parklands. You’ll find plenty of hidden gems off the main pathway along the river. There’s the Wheel of Brisbane, where you and your love can see the city from new heights. Check out the many green spaces and get lost together in the ambling pathways. Be sure to check out Epicurious – an edible garden with plenty of local and international herbs, fruit and veg, and also some lovely areas to put down a picnic mat and relax. Finish off your time with a swim at Streets Beach, an entirely manmade beach right in the middle of the city.
Evening
Kangaroo Point is absolutely magical as the sun sets. Home of Riverlife, there are plenty of adventure activities you can do together – but if you’ve had enough action, you can also just enjoy the twinkling city lights from the high cliff tops. For a truly memorable way to wind down the day, why not complete a twilight climb at the Story Bridge adventure climb, and view the city from the top of the iconic bridge. From there, why not head to the Howard Smith Wharves for a delightful riverside meal?
Day 2
Morning
Brisbane is beautiful in the morning, and today is the day to fully enjoy the CBD. Spend the morning together wandering the city, and uncovering hidden delights. There are plenty of little laneways, heritage buildings, and lots of opportunity for a bit of retail therapy. The best place to hit the shops is the Queen Street Mall – a long strip with over 700 retailers, you can often find roving entertainers and music to enjoy while you shop. If you’re feeling a little competitive, stop at the Wintergarden and visit Strike Bowling together. It’s a short walk to Brisbane City Hall once you’re done with the shops. There you can enjoy the beautiful building, the museum showcasing the city’s history, and even journey up the clock tower (it’s free, but be sure to book!)
Afternoon
On a sunny Brisbane afternoon, why not enjoy some greenery? The city has plenty of beautiful natural spaces that you can explore together. Check out the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens, the Roma Street Parklands, the Queens Gardens, and if you’re prepared to venture out of the CBD there are plenty more on your doorstep. Each has their own unique loveliness and attractions, so plan to spend some quality time enjoying the botanic beauty with your loved one.
Evening
The home of entertainment in Brisbane, the Queensland Performing Arts Centre is home to everything from internationally renowned shows to blossoming local talent. There’s always something on, and it’s the perfect way to end your 48 hours as a couple in Brisbane. Once your show is over, enjoy the twinkling lights over the river as you walk along the Southbank Parklands, or cross the river over the Victoria bridge to the Treasury Casino to test your luck together.
