The second Ampol State of Origin in Brisbane promises to be a fiery clash between the biggest names in rugby league. Queensland will be looking to redeem themselves, and NSW have all the motivation and drive to continue the impressive performance that thrilled fans in Game 1.
Here’s everything you need to know leading up to the State of Origin in Brisbane.
The Game
While Queensland may have the shield, their performance in Game 1 will have to see a significant improvement if they hope to retain it. NSW pulled off a historic win, beating Queensland 50-6 in the series opener in Townsville. But if past years are anything to go by, Queensland shouldn’t be written off yet – expect to see them fired up and ready to take the game into their own hands in their home stadium.
Game 2 is coming to Brisbane, with Suncorp Stadium playing host to the clash on Sunday 27th of June. The game has already sold out, but those who missed out on tickets will have plenty of other options to join the crowds and get in on the action.
Where to Watch
The Suncorp Stadium crowds and atmosphere will be unbeatable for fans looking to cheer their team on, but if you don’t have a ticket, you can still join in. With the country-wide passion for the game making it one of the sporting events of the year, there are hundreds of venues around the city that will show Origin Game 2 on the big screens.
But to watch the Origin like a local, here are some of the best venues for you to join in with the Brisbane crowd.
The Story Bridge Hotel have an established tradition as a meeting place for Origin fans. They show the match on a number of big screens located throughout the venue, replicating the excitement and passion of the live game.
Located within a short walk from the stadium itself, the Caxton allows you to be as close to the action as possible without needing a ticket. Come along to watch the game, and then join in on the post-game atmosphere as fans pour out of the stadium to celebrate their win or drown their sorrows.
Known as a favourite hangout for the Broncos, the Normanby Hotel is one of the oldest pubs in Brisbane and well regarded as a place to catch up and watch the match. Grab a steak and hang out in the beer garden before joining in with fellow fans to see the game unfold.
For a night in alone or with friends, the game is free to air on Channel Nine, or streams via 9Now for most smart devices. Eligible Telstra customers can catch replays on their NRL app.
